Hi guys. Nick here from HVAC Business Growth. Thank you very much for watching the show. In this video, what we’re going to do is talk about whether you should be doing your own SEO or whether you should be hiring an SEO consultant or company. I’m obviously pretty biassed as I’m an SEO provider myself, but in this video I’m going to prove to you why you should be looking after your side of the business and letting us take care of the SEO for you. Let’s get stuck into the show.
To reiterate the question, it’s should you DIY or do it yourself SEO or hire an expert to rank your HVAC business in Google? All right. So there’s a few things to consider here. The first question we need to ask is why? Why would you do your own SEO? There’s probably a few reasons for that and I can empathise here with the business owners that are watching this. You may have been burned before by an SEO company, so you’ve may have paid hundreds or thousands of dollars a month and not actually gotten the results. So you feel like if you take it in-house, you can have some control over it. I can completely understand that.
The other reason why you might do it yourself is really to save money. The marketing budget might be a bit tight. You might be spending all your money on Google Ads or Facebook ads or something like that, and you just can’t afford to be out laying the hundreds of the thousands of dollars per month. You think you can do it yourself.

That segues into the myth of saving money. So it’s actually really difficult to be able to do your own DIY SEO at a low cost or free. So pretty much everything on the internet regarding SEO requires some sort of funds. So you’re going to need some software tools to be able to do the job effectively. There’s going to be some monthly subscriptions or some upfront payments that you’re going to have to make for your software. Then you’ve got the cost of creating accounts and profiles and content and link-building and all that sort of stuff. Link-building is very, very difficult to do for free. All the other things like creating accounts and and creating content, you can do that yourself, but it’s very, very time consuming to be able to do that for yourself. Very time consuming.
You have to think about where your expertise actually lies as an HVAC business owner. Your expertise is in actually running the business. If you’re a technician at heart, it might actually be getting out on the road and doing service calls. But if you’re a business owner, it’s really more about the strategy of the business and staffing and looking after human resource and general marketing. Not specific marketing like SEO or Google Ads or Facebook or something like that. So your expertise is as a business owner. That’s where you’re the best at. Best or my recommendation for you is to take a wider view. Sit back a little bit more and work on the strategy of your business. Leave the search engine optimization up to an expert.
You also need to consider how much R&D or research and development is involved in SEO. So myself, I know I’ve spent over a hundred thousand dollars on SEO R&D. I would have owned several hundred domains over the past 10 years, basically that had been doing SEO, and it costs a lot of money. You need to stay on the edge. Google is constantly changing, constantly updating. You need to have a lot of sites out there and a lot of irons in the fire, so to speak, to be able to research and correctly diagnose any issues that actually come up. So it’s very, very difficult to be able to do your own SEO at a low cost and actually get some benefit out of it.
To answer the original question, should you do your own SEO or hire an expert? The answer is hire an expert. So I know I’m incredibly biassed. I’m running an HVAC SEO company and producing this video, but I definitely think you should hire an expert for this. That’s just my black and white recommendation.
