Hey guys. Nick here from HVAC Business Growth. Thanks very much for watching the video. Today what we’re going to talk about is one of the most important things in search engine optimization and that is on-page optimization. What it’s really referring to is the words, the titles, the descriptions, the backend data that’s actually sitting on your own website. It’s vitally important. There’s plenty to talk about. Let’s get stuck in.
All right. What is on-page SEO? Basically, it is the content that is on your site and the overall architecture of the website. That’s what on-page SEO is. If you’ve heard of off-page, that is just basically the link profile that is going back to your website and the brand mentions and that sort of thing. That’s the difference between on-page and off-page SEO.
It’s not going to be a tutorial, so to speak, for how to do on-page SEO for your HVAC website. This video is really just going to tell you the difference about what it is effectively. This is where you will see on-page SEO come into effect. The first thing that we’ve got here up on the top, that is the title tag in a Google Chrome browser window. It shows up basically the same on Firefox or Safari or the other browsers, but this is the title tag. This is my own website here. HVAC marketing is a title tag for this particular page that we’ve got here.

Then as we have a look at a Google search, which is underneath it, we’ve got the blue text here. That is the title tag. Then we’ve got the URL here, which is in the green. Then, circled, is the description. On-page SEO really is about getting the keywords that you’re trying to rank for. In this example here you can see on the screen it’s got air conditioning repair services, Baltimore. That’s a key phrase that’s in the title. It’s got air conditioning contractors, which is a similar phrase to air conditioning repair services. The description also has air conditioning repair services in Baltimore as well.
It’s a fair bet that Home Advisor here has this page set up to rank for air conditioning repair services, Baltimore, because they’ve got the keywords mentioned in the page title. They’ve got a very similar URL although slightly different, but still relevant. It’s also mentioned in the description as well. As you can see, the bottom of the screen there there’s also a Yelp listing as well where it’s got best air conditioning repair in Baltimore. Which is, obviously, similar to the one that’s above it.
It’s not quite as optimised here because it’s just got Baltimore in here. It doesn’t have any keywords in the URL, and then it’s got a list of various air conditioning phrases in the description that is similar in the form of businesses here. It’s got air heating and cooling, HVAC, duct pros, plumbing, so it’s a lot of similar and relevant phrases.
If we take a look at some of the places that you can actually have your SEO optimised on-page, you’ve got your page title, you’ve got URL which is, it might be your website.com, slash, and then you can put some keywords into that URL if you want to. You’ve got the description, which we just spoke about. We’ve also got the header tags from H1 through the H6. I think of these as the large bold text that has got the headings and the subheadings that are on your site. Typically, these are in the form of H1 and H6. H1 Would be the most important through H6, which would be the least important.
These are great for, essentially, creating a structure to your website and organising the information. Then we’ve got the texts in the site page that you’re trying to rank. It might have anywhere from 300 through to a couple of thousand words. Typically, an HVAC site can rank quite well with maybe 1,000 words of content on the page, so we need to make sure this content is relevant. So if you’re trying to rank for duct cleaning, then you need to have relevant content and text on the particular page about duct cleaning.
The images on the side are really important as well. We want to make sure that we have our images named with some keyword-rich text, I guess you could say. So the title of the image, ideally, will be keyword-rich. Any other media that you’ve got on then, ideally, would be keyword-rich as well. So if you’ve got any PDFs, make sure they’re named with some relevant key phrases. Videos need to have relevant video titles as well.
After this, what we can do is then link all of this content together. So on your side if you have some relevant content or some multiple pages around air conditioning repair, you can link those content pieces together, link the blog post together. Basically what you’re trying to do is give off a signal to Google that your overall site is relevant and you do that through good site architecture, through interlinking and that sort of thing.
Hopefully, that gives you a good overview for what on-page SEO is. If I could summarise, it’s an important foundation to your website that search engines read to figure out whether your site is at first relevant for the search query that somebody is searching for. Hopefully, that makes sense. Hopefully, you understand. Thanks for watching and we’ll see you in the next video.
