Hi there, Nick Bielawski here with another HVAC Business Growth news update.

This week Search Engine Land released their local marketing survey and surprise surprise! Mobile and tablet traffic is actually on their way up.

So the question is, for your heating and cooling business, are you actually optimized to receive this tablet and mobile traffic?
The same survey actually revealed that people are looking for deeper and better content on the website that they visit. So it’s no longer good enough to actually have just a homepage with your name, address and telephone number on there. People need good quality content. They need videos; they need audio; they need some great information about your business so they can make a sound buying decision.

This week Matt Cutts of Google actually announced through the Google Webmaster blog that they’ll be looking very heavily into guest blogging practices. For those of you who don’t know, guest blogging is the act of actually creating content for other websites. They’ll put that content on their site and then link back to you. And it’s a way that you can manipulate ranking in the search engines. Google actually said that they’re going to look at this very very carefully and they’re considering this quite a spammy technique now.

So the lesson here is: what you need to do is create a good content and put it up on your own website. That way, people will link to you; they’ll push the Facebook like button; they’ll tweet your content and you’ll get more traffic and more visitors to your site.

Last week, Google did a refresh on the infamous Panda algorithm. For the uneducated, the Panda algorithm was specifically designed to pick up low quality content and a poor user-experience and remove it from the search engines. So, if you’ve actually experienced the drop in traffic or sales from an online perspective since November 8 – you’ll notice that in over a 2 or 3-day period—then you may have been hit by the Panda algorithm. If you’re not sure, you can always drop us a line at HVACbusinessgrowth.com and we can check this out for you.

This week also saw the release of the first ever HVACbusinessgrowth.com podcast. It’s available right now on iTunes. The topic for this week’s podcast was direct marketing 101. So, in it, we basically went through the fundamentals and the core philosophies of direct marketing. It’s a great podcast; it goes for just over for 20 minutes. I urge you to go and check that out.
I’m Nick Bielawski for HVACbusinessgrowth.com. I’ll see you next week.
